To cater to those agricultural producers who work hard to feed the world’s growing population, John Deere has revealed a new fully autonomous tractor. The company, which unveiled the machine at CES 2022, will make it available to customers later this year. It combines Deere’s 8R tractor, TruSet-enabled chisel plow, and GPS guidance system to provide producers with the latest, most refined technology in the industry.

With the world’s population expected to increase to 10 billion people by 2050, global food demand is projected to rise by 50%. Agricultural producers are expected to face several challenges, including less available land, changing weather conditions, and variations in soil quality. The new autonomous tractor from John Deere will give them one less thing to worry about while taking care of business out in the field.

The tractor has six pairs of stereo cameras for 360-degree obstacle detection and distance calculation. It also continuously checks its position relative to a geofence to ensure it operates where it’s supposed to. What’s more, positioning is within less than an inch of accuracy.

With John Deere Operations Center Mobile, operators have access to live video, data and metrics, and images that allow them to adjust speed and depth on the fly. They can also be notified of any machine health issues remotely and make necessary adjustments immediately.
